Leeds United manager Paul Heckingbottom has suggested that goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald is in danger of being dropped in the future, but is safe for now.
The German Under-20 international came under fire from supporters over the weekend as his error allowed Bristol City to open the scoring.
After going 2-0 down inside the first 16 minutes, the Yorkshire club managed to secure a 2-2 draw thanks to goals from Pierre-Michel Lasogga and Kemar Roofe.
Despite his team clawing back a 2-2 draw, Wiedwald did not escape criticism and fans made their feelings about the shot-stopper clear.
The German has been prone to the odd mistake as he made an error during Leeds’ 3-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers in December.
Prior to that, Thomas Christiansen, who was manager up until earlier this month, decided to drop Wiedwald in October.
Ahead of this evening’s away match against Derby County at Pride Park, Heckingbottom has not claimed that he will make a change to the goalkeeping situation, but he has reminded players that nobody is safe.
The Yorkshire Evening Post quotes the manager as saying:
“The fans voiced their concerns [at Wiedwald] but then the fans helped the team get the win which was unbelievable. I don’t see any issues as it stands at the moment but like every other player they’re all fighting for their place. That won’t change regardless of results. We could be winning eight in a row but there can always be someone breathing down your neck waiting to take your place.”
