A slight majority of the Aston Villa fans that answered our recent poll want new boss Dean Smith to target goalkeeper Daniel Bentley from his former club Brentford in January.

Villa recently sacked Steve Bruce after a poor start to the season left them sitting below mid-table in the Championship after they fell at the final hurdle last season, losing 1-0 to Fulham in the play-off final and missing out on promotion to the Premier League.

Smith is a lifelong Aston Villa fan and left the Bees to come to Villa Park despite them sitting three points and eight places above his new club, and he has also brought his former assistant Richard O’Kelly with him, proving that he won’t be afraid to poach from Griffin Park.

Now, 58 per cent of the Aston Villa fans that voted in our poll also want Smith to bring 25-year-old Bentley in in January to replace summer signing Orjan Nyland.
