There was certainly a little confusion among Tottenham Hotspur supporters when the club splashed out £30m to sign Moussa Sissoko from relegated Newcastle United on the final day of the 2016 summer transfer window, and just over two years later it appears that confusion was completely justified.
Considering the north London outfit had just finished second in the Premier League and were starting to make waves in the Champions League, it appeared to strange to bring in a player – even if he was a full France international – who had been largely inconsistent with the Magpies in their battle against the drop the previous season.
The midfielder struggled to break into Spurs’ starting XI from the very start of his career with them, and he quickly became something of a laughing stock among his own fans when he did get minutes on the pitch, while it also took him 44 appearances and more than a year to score his first goal for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.
Sissoko still has two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract, and reports suggested during the summer that Daniel Levy and the club were keen to cash in on the 29-year-old, but only if they recouped the £30m they had spent on him in the first place.

We at FootballFancast thought they were being way too overly ambitious with that valuation given he has been labelled as a flop by many, so we asked Spurs fans to vote on our poll to tell us how much they think the Frenchman, who was a last-minute substitute in the 2-0 win against Huddersfield Town on Saturday, is worth.
A majority 38% think he should now be valued at less than £10m as you can see from the results below, which of course would signal a huge loss for Levy.
